INDIAN CHAMELEON

Chamaeleo zeylanicus

The photographer came upon this chameleon in Nashik, Maharashtra, and was heartbroken at the sight of her unlaid eggs. Despite adapting to varied habitats, ranging from rainforests to deserts, slow-moving reptiles are particularly vulnerable to death at the hands of vehicles plying through biodiverse wildernesses. The wild rodent’s quick reflexes failed it when a car travelling at high speed raced through the Lakhimpur Kheri district, Uttar Pradesh, in the Terai lowlands at the base of the Himalaya.
