Lynx Spider Moulting

A cannibal spider? No, you’re looking at a lynx spider shedding its blue-tinged molt (above) in the Tungareshwar Wildlife Sanctuary next to Mumbai’s Sanjay Gandhi National Park. Spiders periodically shed their rigid exoskeletons as they grow. The arachnids take in air and use concentrated pressure of their blood to enlarge their bodies, thus cracking and discarding the old exoskeleton.
