History much older than 2,000 years

Elephants grace the 2,000-year-old pillars of Kanheri caves located inside the park, although no elephants roam this forest. The caves are now home to a myriad species of bats, while the water cisterns are inhabited by snakes, frogs, crabs, insects, and other invertebrates. The tranquillity of the monastic caves is shattered on the weekends – a staggering 3,27,250 people visited the caves in 2023.
