Thank you for your interest in submitting to Sanctuary Asia. Sanctuary reaches a wide and varied audience, including students, conservationists, biologists, wildlife officials, professionals, and the common citizen who harbours an interest in wildlife and conservation.
We publish well-researched articles and opinion pieces on wildlife conservation, science and natural history. If the piece is about a particular destination, it should elaborate on the ecology, flora and fauna of the region, threats to the habitat, observations/inputs from the community and should also include personal experiences. We also encourage wildlife profiles, species status reports, personal wilderness adventure stories, people’s relationships with the land and so on. Most of our articles are written in a first-person narrative.
We appreciate creative thinking and would like the story to bring about awareness and educate readers without preaching. Most major features run around 1,800 words, and shorter reports are of about 1,200 to 1,400 words.
Sanctuary does not accept articles that have been published before.
Sanctuary currently publishes articles on two platforms -- magazine and website.
Once published, you will be requested to fill an onboarding form and share your bank details.
Please send us your completed piece, if you have it, or a synopsis of your proposed article to editorial@sanctuaryasia.com. Follow the guidelines below and include all information:
Note:
- If you first send us a synopsis, we may ask for a copy of the article. This does not, however, guarantee that the article will be accepted. You will receive a confirmation of publication only after we have received the complete article and information requested above.
- Please note that since only six issues of Sanctuary Asia are published annually, it may take up to a year after acceptance for material to be published.
- Due to the large volume of submissions we receive, we will be able to respond only to articles that are accepted.
At the discretion of the editorial team, some stories require little editing, while others may be edited heavily in keeping with the Sanctuary style. A copy of the edited story is sent to the writer for comment and approval prior to publication.
We strongly encourage you to read the last few issues of the magazine to get a better idea of the kind of articles we publish, the writing style and topics that have been covered recently.

Sanctuary Cub was the first-ever magazine for India’s younger audience to learn about wildlife and nature. The Cub edition promotes the love and knowledge of nature amongst children and young adults through adventure stories, engaging puzzles and colourful photo essays.
We accept short articles and snippets, and are particularly interested in stories written by children. We look for articles on wildlife destinations, travel, wildlife rescues, natural history explainers and so on. All to be written in simple, easy-to-understand language.
The articles should run no more than 700 to 800 words.
Upon acceptance and publication, we will be in a position to pay Rs. 1/- per word for the copyright to a major article for Cub.
Photographs are compensated at between Rs. 250/- to Rs. 1000/- per visual depending on the size of reproduction and the position. Sanctuary reserves the right to reproduce all material on our website and social media.

It is always a pleasure to see some lovely moments captured from the wild.
Images sent to us are carefully stored in our database, for future use in the magazines (Sanctuary Asia and Sanctuary Cub) and other publications (coffee table books, guide books) that we publish, as well as for syndication to other publications, of course with your permission. We always inform the photographer when an image is selected for publication and also make a payment as per usage. Image credits are printed in the following format: Photographer's name/Sanctuary Photo Library. Copyright remains that of the photographer.
Apart from our publications, we also showcase the best wildlife images by the photographers on the Sanctuary website and social media. Sharing them online helps bring such work to public notice and create conservation awareness, which is Sanctuary's raison d'etre.
Sanctuary also places a fairly large number of images for commercial use in calendars and other corporate products. These are negotiated on a case by case basis and our terms with photographers involves a 50 per cent share of the revenue with the photographer, which becomes due only after payment is received by Sanctuary from the buyer.
It goes without saying that Sanctuary will attempt to promote the work of photographers where possible.
Please do read the image submission process. This helps us keep a record of the images received and use them in the most appropriate manner.
