We stand before the still waters of a pond… reflecting every cloud and blade of grass, something within us stilling. In truth, even though we may feel separate, we are an indelible part of nature, one of her own children, foot soldiers for her cause. In this moment as we pause between humanity’s actions in the past and wait for the effects on our future, we can allow ourselves a breather in the present. We can allow ourselves to rest, only if for a moment and look the vastness of nature in the eye. And if we are really still, nature may allow us a glimpse of what it means to be part of her… and lo and behold you may see your true self reflected in the water.

A ditch jewel dragonfly Brachythemis contaminata momentarily rests on a lily leaf, creating a zen-like image of tranquillity and stillness where water and sky merge seamlessly. Breeding in slow-moving waterbodies, they can commonly be found in sewage canals, ditches and gullies, thus serving as ecosystem health indicators.
