Love In The Open Sea Is Colourful And Mesmerising
Dhritiman Mukherjee, Love in the open sea is colourful and mesmerising. The most tender lovers of the lot, this psychedelic patterned pair of mandarin fish Synchiropus sp. are barely seven to ten centimetres. in size and the second animal in the world known to produce their own blue colouring. The males court and woo the females and once they have paired up, they join cheek to belly as if they are dancing. Fins fluttering, they then rise above the corals that is their home into the open water and release a cloud of sperm and eggs simultaneously. Location: Malapascua Island, Philippines
